Carly grew up in Central Vermont until her family moved to the Lake Champlain Islands for her high school years. From there she took to the sea, living on a 188 foot three masted sailing vessel, traveling throughout the Atlantic and Mediterranean. After 5 months she landed back in Vermont and found herself in the nursing program at Castleton State College. Throughout her nursing career she focused primarily on outpatient community health. Whether it be with patients, medical providers, pharmacists, lab specialists, insurance adjusters, administrative staff, or fellow nurses she loved finding ways to connect with all the players involved in giving good patient care.
But alas, ten years in nursing was enough and she decided it was time for a change. She wanted to try out a more active, artistic, hands on job. Growing up with a carpenter for a father she remembers fondly helping out on his jobsites learning about hanging sheetrock or working a brake to bend metal siding. Now she has a carpenter for a partner and she continues to learn more and more about the complex intricacies of building science.
She volunteered at a few Timberhomes handraisings and found the art of timber framing and the kindness and skill of the team inspiring. She officially joined the Timberhomes team as an apprentice carpenter in November 2023. After almost a year of fulltime carpentry she felt herself being drawn to project management, a role that used all of her skills from both carpentry and nursing in many ways. She loves meeting new clients and trades partners and helping conduct efficient workflow through good communication and organization. So far it has been a fun and rewarding journey and she is excited to see what this new career will bring.
When not at work she enjoys gluten free baking, cooking, hiking, biking, skiing, and climbing, or simply just hanging out with the family and the dogs.
