Mark grew up in a small village in Switzerland, surrounded by traditional wooden buildings. As a kid he worked with his dad to convert an old barn into his family’s house; later, he spent summer vacations working for a local carpenter, helping to restore old homes and building new ones from reclaimed wood. After a stint living in Vermont for college, he returned home and managed a local Alpine refuge, spending the next seven years hosting hikers and ski touring groups at over 8,000 feet in altitude—but he never lost the itch for working with wood.
Mark eventually decided to go back to school, enrolling in a two-year program in Preservation Carpentry at Boston’s North Bennett Street School. After a summer spent restoring old barns with Building Heritage, a timber framing company in Huntington, Mark knew he wanted to stay in VT. He packed up his planes and relocated to Tunbridge, joining the TimberHomes crew in 2018. When he’s not in the shop in Vershire, he’s most likely outside: rock climbing, fly fishing, cycling, or skiing his way around the Green or White Mountains.
