Timber Frame Porch for the North Branch Nature Center

October 17, 2017

TimberHomes was recently subcontracted to build a porch at the North Branch Nature Center in Montpelier. As part of an addition being added to the North Branch’s main office by Kingdom Construction, TH’s contribution introduces heavy timbers and some natural features to the educational center, which is frequented by area children and adults alike.

The porch frame features TH’s preferred palette of materials including: White Pine in the plates and rafters; 11 White Oak Posts, two pair of naturally curved Cherry braces, and a pair of Black Locust tree forks resting on two sliced granite boulders.

The effect of scribing tree forks to round stone is truly awe inspiring and gives the impression that the trees are growing straight out of the boulders! In the words of North Branch’s director Chip Darmstadt, the porch is, “the icing on the cake”.
