Our Largest Standard Pavilion Design

With a 24′ span across the gable end of the pavilion, the Vershire is the largest of our three standard pavilions. We built our first one for the town of Vershire, Vermont in 2023, and then built three more in quick succession for the towns of Cornwall, Tinmouth, and Cambridge, Vermont. This pavilion is a large, open gathering space that would serve a city park, town recreation fields, a campground, or a wedding venue well.

Like our other standard pavilions, the smallest version of the Vershire pavilion is square in design, and additional timber frame cross sections (termed “bents”) can be added, to extend the building into longer and longer rectangular shapes. You can see measurements for the standard designs in the “Dimensions” section of this webpage. All of the Vershire pavilions we have built to date have been the larger, 4-bent versions.

The Vershire pavilion is a king post design, with large upper chords supporting a single central king post, which in turn, carries a ridge beam. Common rafters land on the ridge and longitudinal plates. It’s a classic timber frame design that showcases the beauty of New England’s trees. The original Vershire pavilion was raised by hand, by members of the community it now serves. The town of Tinmouth, VT also raised much of their structure by hand, and put together a great time lapse video, which you can see below.
