The Open Space Institute (OSI) contacted us in early 2025 to talk kiosks. OSI is a national leader in the land conservation movement. Their efforts have helped preserve literally millions of acres of land across the United States, including the 3,000 acres that make up the Schunnemunk State Park an hour north of New York City. When they got in touch with TimberHomes, they had recently added 220 acres of land to the park, and built the multi-use, 4 season Schunnemunk Meadows Trail. Three of our classic kiosks can be found along that trail.
These are the types of projects we at TimberHomes feel great about being a part of – this beautiful wildflower meadow, with views of the historic Moodna Viaduct (photos below) and the gorgeous low mountains and deep river gorges of the Western Hudson Highlands will now be available to walkers, bikers, skiiers, and wheelchairs thanks to OSI’s efforts. Our kiosks and trailhead signs blend into the landscape, because they are made with species of wood that can be found in those mountains, and are built by hand in our Vermont shops. Black locust posts will hold these classic kiosks up for decades to come. We look forward to hearing about OSI’s future efforts!
