Earlier this summer, TimberHomes headed south to Bennington County to raise a timber frame boat shelter in Bondville, Vermont. (Fun fact: Bondville is home to the longest running state fair in Vermont!). Being a hike from either of our home shops in Vershire and Montpelier, we worked with a local general contractor on the fore and aft; they completed all the sitework including installing custom precast piers before we arrived, and finished the roof after the timber frame was raised.
The timber frame was cut and raised by our Vershire crew. It uses hefty and naturally rot-resistant white oak timbers as posts. The roof timbers are cut from Eastern White Pine. There’s some fun and interesting joinery to be found where the top plates, tie beams, and oak post-tops all come together, with the upper chord from the king post truss landing on the tie beam nearby. The king post truss helps achieve a clearspan of over 20′, and with roof overhangs, the total covered area is approximately 25′ x 25′. We enjoyed making this lovely building, and the clients had this to say: “Thank you, thank you! We are so pleased with our pavilion/carport. The quality of the design and craftsmanship far exceeded our expectations! It was amazing to watch the process today and your entire crew was delightful.”
