Timber Frame Craftsmanship in a Small Package
A single Mini Kiosk comes fully assembled and ready to install. Made from locally sourced and naturally rot-resistant wood from New England, the Mini offers decades of service. Like all of our kiosks, the Mini features hand-cut, traditional timber frame joinery (mortise and tenon). The standard Mini includes a signboard cover, but it can be easily modified to accommodate a permanent display such as a high pressure laminate sign.

Mini Kiosk Specs
What’s in the Kit:
- Kiosk fully assembled
- Roofing metal, pre-drilled for screws and packaged in cardboard. Standard colors are Ivy Green and Brown; additional colors are available but may incur additional fees depending on availability.
- A single page of installation instructions, along with the screws needed to fasten the roofing metal.
Details:
- All Timber: a combination of white oak girts and headers that are joined to Black Locust posts and secured with oak pegs.
- Roof: Top has band sawn curve with 5/4 pine roof with roofing metal fastened with screws.
- Sign Area: signboard is 2’W x 3’H with standard cover. Back of kiosk is also available for displays.
- Viewable Area: Taking the rails and stiles into account, the viewable display area is 19 1/2″ W x 32″ H x (3/8″D).
- Door: To cover the signage area on the front of the Mini, a cherry-framed plexiglass door is included. The door is hinged on top and has pin with hole to receive padlock (padlock not provided).
Standard Options for Mini Kiosks
- Location Signs: routed into face of upper crossbar, $350 for up to 14 letters maximum (See photo below of the “Kingdom Trails” Mini).
- Double-Sided: We can put a door on both sides of the unit. Timber posts will be increased to 5″ x 5″ – $1,000
- Stretched Version: Stretch this kiosk horizontally so that you have up to 3′ of space between posts – $300
- Customizing: We are happy to make any adjustments you have in mind for an hourly labor/design rate plus materials.
Mini Kiosk Installation
Our kiosks are simple to install and the work can be readily done by a group of 3-4 people following our instructions.With your kiosk purchase, we will provide separate installation directions including an exact center-to-center post hole dimension.
For the standard Mini:
- Dig two 12″ holes, 4′-3″ deep, 2′ 4″ apart on center.
- We recommend installing 8”x4’ (or larger) tubes, such as culverts or sonotubes, at the post hole locations.
- reattach roofing metal to kiosk roof (removed for transport).
- Insert posts into tubes and back fill with clean gravel while you check for plumb and level. We DO NOT recommend backfilling with concrete.
- We recommend that you consult Dig Safe before to ensure that your installation will be safe.
- TimberHomes can supply brackets to attach your kiosk to a concrete slab or piers. Please inquire about pricing.
Add a Brochure or Registration Box to Your Kiosk
Do you need storage for maps or a registry? These simple, weather-tight boxes can be purchased to install on your kiosk. We send them with pre-drill bits and screws, so that our clients can install them on their kiosks wherever they like.
Brochure boxes: These boxes will store a tri-fold brochure or map, displaying them through their plexiglass front. – $275
Registration boxes: The front of these registration boxes folds down to reveal a sturdy writing surface with a clasp to hold a small stack of 8.5″ x 11″ paper. – $300
Upgrade to Metal Caps: Add metal caps in our standard colors (Ivy Green or Brown) or Black – $30.
Delivery & Shipping
- Pick-up: Our products will be Free On Board at either of our shop locations (Vershire and Montpelier), however, we will specify which shop your kiosk must be picked up from. If you have a preference, please be sure to tell us. A single Mini kiosk can fit easily in to the back of a pickup truck.
- Delivery: We will charge a roundtrip mileage rate to deliver. Ask for a quote.
- Shipping:TimberHomes relies extensively on third party “hotshot” or LTL carriers to deliver our products. Depending upon your location, quantity of units, and scheduling constraints, the costs and requirements of getting products to you can vary greatly. Please call to discuss.
The Nature of Wood
Our products are built using natural timbers from our local forests. We strive to choose timber of the highest quality for your project. However, trees are unique and, as such, are not perfectly uniform. The wood used for our handcrafted timber frames may have knots, wormholes, blue stain, or wane. Typically none of these features pose any kind of risk to the structural integrity of your product.
The wood we use is also green (meaning recently cut) or air dried, and comes from our local sawmills. It is not kiln dried wood from a lumber yard. As green wood dries it may develop checking or cracks, it may shrink or twist, and like all of us, it will grey over time. These characteristics make natural wood products unique. None of these characteristics affect the structural integrity of the wood or the kiosk. Nevertheless, we strongly recommend that you inspect your product on an annual basis for signs of deterioration, and be in touch if you have concerns.
The Black Locust Challenge
For kiosk posts that are installed directly into the ground, we have moved to using strictly Black Locust material (Robinia Pseudoacacia). Some other timber species have some natural rot resistance (white oak, cedar, etc), but locust is the incomparable gold standard. Ask any old farmer. However, it typically does not grow very straight, which makes getting a 12’ long kiosk post difficult, and meaning that our kiosk posts are almost guaranteed to have some of the defects listed above. We have chosen to value the longevity of the product over a straight-grained, knot free look.
Kiosk Post Care/Inspection
We strongly recommend installing your kiosk post into a tube, such as a culvert or even a Sonotube. With ideally 3-6” of gravel at the bottom of your hole, install the tube at the prescribed post center and lightly back fill with the native soil. Install the kiosk posts/display assembly into the tubes. After the unit is leveled and plumbed, use clean gravel to backfill the post. Be sure to keep the gravel around the post bottoms clear of soil and other organic matter. Doing so should ensure decades of service from your kiosk.
We strongly recommend that the posts bottoms are inspected annually. If your organization has an annual maintenance check list, please add kiosk inspection to the list.
